MY THOUGHTS:

This Historical Romance is based in the 1890's and is about two of the most different people. I would have never thought that they would have had a chance together from the way the story begins. Gwen has money and is such a sweet girl who has had kind of a sheltered life and gets hurt so much.  This story starts with Gwen getting hurt by a couple of men both leaving her at the alter.  She starts thinking about what has happened and how she thinks she will be thought of as damaged goods after she has been left twice.  She then realizes that she is tired of being the good girl and decides that it is time to make a change. While she is upset and going over everything that has happened she soon realizes that Thomas the second guy to leave her at the alter has ran off with her father's ring that she so cherished.  She starts to get angry and then starts thinking about all of the things she is going to change and what it would be like to be naughty since everyone has always thought her to be the model of excellence.  Alex was sent to take care of Gwen and I think just a little bit hard to like but as the story goes on he turns out to be more likeable and really isn't such a bad guy after all and as the story goes on you realize that they do have more in common than you think.

I have to admit I was wondering whether I would like this book or not because I haven't read anything by Meredith Duran before. I would like to say that I very much enjoyed this read. There are a couple of reasons that I really enjoyed this book.  One reason I like this story is I guess I just like the writing style and the wonderful way she has with words.  Another is I just love it when you can get to know the characters and just fall in love with them or hate them through the authors way of words.  I am a sucker for the characters I really like to get a good feel for them and I do believe that it has a lot to do with how the author chooses words. The author makes you feel and understand what Gwen is going through and the pain and sorrow that she feels and takes you through the transformation like you are going through it with her and of course many other things throughout the story.  This is a very good romantic tale with a touch of mystery and keeps you wondering what will be next.   I would definitely recommend this book and I know that I can't wait to start another in hopes that the rest are as good as this one.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

MEREDITH DURAN grew up enamored of British history. At thirteen years old, she made a list of life goals that included writing romance novels, trying sushi, and going to London to see Holbein's portrait of Anne Boleyn. Now a doctoral student in anthropology, she is happy to report that all three goals have become her favorite things to do. When not studying, doing fieldwork in India, or working on her next novel, Meredith can be found in the library, browsing through travelogues written by intrepid Englishwomen of the nineteenth century.
