DESCRIPTION (from Goodreads)
A MAN CONTROLLED BY HIS DESIRES . . .
Infamous for his wild, sensual needs, Lazarus Huntington, Lord Caire, is searching for a savage killer in St. Giles, London's most notorious slum. Widowed Temperance Dews knows St. Giles like the back of her hand-she's spent a lifetime caring for its inhabitants at the foundling home her family established. Now that home is at risk . . .
A WOMAN HAUNTED BY HER PAST . . .
Caire makes a simple offer-in return for Temperance's help navigating the perilous alleys of St. Giles, he will introduce her to London's high society so that she can find a benefactor for the home. But Temperance may not be the innocent she seems, and what begins as cold calculation soon falls prey to a passion that neither can control-one that may well destroy them both.

MY THOUGHTS
I felt this story was pretty good but it could have been better for me had the characters had a little more background. I do really love getting to know the characters very well and I felt as if I didn't know maybe everything I needed to know to get a real good feel for Lord Caire and I could have used just a little bit more with Temperance. I kept feeling as if I was missing something. I had a little bit of a hard time getting started with this book but after a few chapters I was really quite engrossed in the story. I felt that the story was well written and took a bit of (good) turn from the normal historical romance and I think that is why I liked it. So eventhough I could have used a little more information with the characters and had a little bit of a hard time getting started I did enjoy this read. I have read a few of Elizabeth Hoyt's books in the past and have never been disappointed and I feel that this is a pretty good start to her MAIDEN LANE SERIES. I will be waiting for the second book Notorious Pleasures to come out in Feb. of 2011.
