Would you risk your life—on the love of a lifetime?

Charleston, 1799: A daughter of Southern gentility and a gifted painter, Catherine Edilean Harcourt has no lack of suitors at home in Virginia, waiting to fulfill her dream of marriage and family. But Cay’s adventurous spirit, fostered by growing up with her three brothers, is piqued while visiting her godfather in South Carolina. Bedridden with a broken leg, he asks Cay to fill in for him on an urgent task: on her way to a fancy dress ball, she must deliver a packed horse to an old friend’s son—who also happens to be an escaped convict charged with murdering his wife! Cay agrees to the plan, which doesn’t go at all as planned . . . whereupon she finds herself fleeing Alexander McDowell’s captors, riding blind into the night with the fugitive Scotsman. Though she should fear him, Cay finds herself overwhelmingly attracted to Alex, and drawn into his tale of misguided justice and his innocence as they seek refuge in the steamy Florida everglades. Will trusting him be the worst mistake of her life? Or will falling in love be the salvation both of them have been looking for?

MY THOUGHTS

I was hooked on this book from the beginning chapter.  The storyline is great.  I found it to be very interesting and with plenty of details.  The characters are carageous and you fall in love with them as this story unfolds.  You have a chance to really get to know Cay and Alex and understand them and that is one of the things I like the most about a good book.   At times the story gets a bit wordy but that is probably just me wanting to get to the best parts faster.  I tend to want to hop right to the best parts because I get that I can't wait to see what happens and it tends to push me along to the point I can't put the book down.  There is plenty of mystery and romance in this book and is well worth the read.

I was provided this book from the author Jude Deveraux, Pocket Books a Division of Simon & Schuster, Inc., and Gallery Pocket Books group through Book Blogs. This review is of my own honest opinion on the book that I have recieved from this company free of charge to do this review and that in no way influences the way I do my reviews. I am under no obligation to give a positive or negative review. MY THOUGHTS ON "EARL OF DARKNESS" BY ALIX RICKLOFF

Series:  Heirs of Kilronan Trilogy #1

DESCRIPTION: (from Goodreads)

The magic she tries to hide . . .

Born a lady, but reduced to surviving in the slums of Dublin, Catriona O’Connell has been hired to steal a mysterious book from Aidan Douglas, Earl of Kilronan. But Cat is secretly Other, an age-old mixture of Fey and human—something Aidan recognizes immediately when he surprises the lovely young burglar in his library, about to steal a magical diary.

. . . is the magic he desperately wants.

From the moment Aidan sees her, Cat’s spirited beauty enchants him, but her uncanny abilities are what he truly needs, for Cat can understand the mystical language in the diary he inherited from his murdered father. So Aidan makes an offer: translate the book or be thrown in prison as a thief. And as Cat slowly deciphers each page, she and Aidan are drawn together by passion . . . and into the violence of the Other world that is the Kilronan legacy. Can they defeat those who seek the book, or are their lives in even greater danger than their hearts?

A BIT ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Novelist, Margaret Chittenden said, “Many people hear voices when no one is there. Some of them are called mad and are shut up in rooms where they stare at the walls all day. Others are called writers and they do pretty much the same thing.”

That life of staring at walls is one I’ve worked for since my first completed manuscript, Meet the Fuzzy Family, was penned in the fourth grade.

Still an undiscovered gem, if I say so myself!

In the years that followed, various detours lured me from my path. College where I graduated with a degree in European History and a minor in Anthropology. A career in the direct-mail industry (Junk mail is considered a dirty word!) and marriage to my very own hero.

But the dream remained strong. And in 2002, after joining Romance Writers of America, I picked up my pen where I’d left off and began to pursue the elusive profession of writer.

Four manuscripts, an agent, a Marlene award for best Historical, and a Golden Heart Final in Short Historical later, the dream became reality with the sale of Lost In You—a Regency-Set Paranormal—to Kensington Books.

Now, happily shut up in a room and staring at a computer, I can’t wait to introduce readers to the Other—mortals bearing the blood of the Fey—and the world they inhabit. A world that lies beyond the glittering balls and damped muslin of the Regency so many think they know so well.

Dyw genes!

MY THOUGHTS

This has been a very good read.  This is the first book by Alix Rickloff that I have read and I really like the way this was written.  The story is told wonderfully and with plenty of details.  The characters are very strong and they need and learn from each other.  Cat has special abilitities and can understand the language that Aidan is needing so that he may understand it.  She won't be put in prison if she helps him read this book.  They go through a lot together trying to get through this book and stay safe and naturally they are drawn together.  This book has been put together well with this story having mystery, magic and paranormal all mixed together and that makes for a great read.

MY THOUGHTS ON "TEMPTED BY FATE" BY KATE PERRY

"TEMPTED BY FATE"

Willow Tarata is a Guardian who trusts no one. She hunts those who prey on the vulnerable. And she’s driven by a vengeful goal-find the man who murdered her mother. Yet suddenly Willow’s quarry now has her on the run . . . straight into the sights of San Francisco’s most dangerous detective.

Three bizarre murders have Inspector Rick Ramirez baffled-and determined to uncover the truth. But to catch the real killer, he needs the help of his prime suspect, Willow Tarata, even though this fierce and sexy blonde is challenging his professional cool. And now, unless they believe in each other and trust their deepest instincts, a relentless evil will end both Willow’s and Rick’s life-and claim this Guardian’s extraordinary powers forever . . .

A BIT ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Getting to Know Kate

Otherwise known as misc. facts. Though if you read my blog every week, you probably know all this and more. If you don't read my blog, why the heck not?

■I'm a Master in the art of Kung Fu San Soo. Plain and simple, I kick ass.

■I teach, lots of different things. Against my will. Sigh. I don't love teaching—at least the prep work involved—but the universe seems to want me to do it. Some of my current topics: tai chi, kung fu, the occasional gym class, writing, and cooking (to friends).

■I'm a social butterfly. Going out? Dancing? Dinner with friends? I'm so there.

■I golf. Actually, I don't just golf—I'm a golf maniac. A recent obsession, I've decided I'm destined for golf greatness. Watch out, Tiger Woods.

■I cook. Really, I only cook when I have friends over. But when I cook, I cook. Herb and garlic crusted lamb, roasted chicken, steak with champagne mustard sauce... I'm also a freak who makes and freezes her own broth, fresh tomato sauce, and even bread crumbs.

■And if all that wasn't bad enough, I'm a geek too. I have more electronics in my purse than I do makeup, and I'd rather receive a laptop as a gift than a pair of Manolos. Are you disillusioned?

MY THOUGHTS

This is the 3rd book in THE GUARDIANS OF DESTINY SERIES.  I haven't read any of the rest of the series but that didn't matter with this book although I could tell that there was other books to the series from the beginning but the author has explained everything well enough that you can read this by itself and will be fine.  This book was fantastic.   The author Kate Perry has done a great job with writing this story it flows nicely and the characters stand out. The story is a paranormal that is kind of on the urban romance side which I found to be very good. I would recommend this book and I will be reading some more of Kate Perry's books.
