With his father among the dead, Connor must take his place as chieftain. Before he can lead his clan through the perilous times ahead, however, he must first dislodge the usurper who has taken his family's castle and claimed leadership of the clan.
Connor's cousins and best friend, Ian, Alex and Duncan, will stand shoulder to shoulder with him in every fight. They are willing to give their lives for their clan and their new chieftain. But taking wives to serve the clan's interests is a different matter altogether...
A BIT ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Margaret Mallory surprised her friends and family by abandoning her legal career—and her steady job—to write novels. At long last, she can satisfy her passion for justice by punishing the bad and rewarding the worthy—in the pages of her novels, of course. She lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with her husband and their two college-age children. She would dearly love to hear from readers. MY THOUGHTS
I was very excited to get this book. This is the third book that I have read by Margaret Mallory and another that I just couldn't put down. "The Guardian" is book 1 of the series Return of the Highlanders. I really liked the way it started with the fortune teller when they were boys and then the story just took off. I enjoy the way that the author tells the story with such detail and you get lost in the story and hooked before you know it. The characters are described very good and you get to know each one of them well. I have a thing about needing to know the characters that I am reading about because I like to get a good feel for the story and she does a good job of making you feel and see things the way they do and brings the story to life.
When I started reading this book I thought I knew what was going to happen and what kind of story I was reading and then started thinking that Ian was being a regular man thinking he was just going to do what he wants and get away with it. I was wrong and I do enjoy seeing Sileas put Ian in his place and not letting him get away with everything especially since it was his fault to begin with. I enjoyed taking the journey with them and watching Ian try to win the love of the woman he hurt by leaving and not coming back for so long I will be looking forward to the next book in the series.
